With the release of ODI 12c, Oracle has also released its own converter, the OWB to ODI migration utility to facilitate the porting of all developments carried out on OWB to ODI.
It is a "command line" tool without any GUI or integrated environment.
One of the requirements to be able to carry out the migration is related to the versions of OWB: only 11gR2 versions are supported, specifically, it is only possible to migrate from OWB 126.96.36.199 or 188.8.131.52 OWB to ODI 12c.
The converter migrates some OWB objects to ODI, but not all. For example, dimensional objects such as cubes and dimensions are not migrated, nor are OWB user defined procedures or process flows. Manual migration is necessary for the latter.
The Converter can be used in three different modes for each of these, choosing a subset of OWB objects to be applied to the migration process:
- FAST_CHECK: the utility performs a quick check and generates a report that lists the objects that can be migrated or not in ODI.
- DRY_RUN: the pre-selected objects are migrated, but a commit is not performed at the end of the process. This mode is used to carry out a test with simulation to determine how the actual conversion would take place.
- RUN: The conversion process is executed and the pre-selected objects are actually migrated to ODI.
The three modes of execution listed facilitate the process of conversion from OWB to ODI and can be used to obtain preventive information on how the actual conversion would take place (RUN mode).
We offer our many years of experience in conversions from OWB to ODI to those who want to use the OWB to ODI migration utility by Oracle, for which we have also been a beta tester on behalf of Oracle itself.
